Blandford Forum

Dorset is full of historic market towns like Blandford Forum, which is one of the reasons the area is so popular with British holiday makers. Blandford Forum is situated in the North of Dorset on the banks of the River Stour.  The first written mention of Blandford Forum, as with many parts of England, was in the Domesday Book of 1086. In the eighteenth century the town was a regular stopping point for people travelling between the Port of Weymouth and the City of London. There are plenty of holiday cottages in and around Dorset and Blandford Forum is within easy access of the major towns in the area.

If you’ve never been to Blandford Forum, but you love Georgian architecture then the town should be ideal for you as it is often referred to as’ the Georgian town’ due to its range of buildings dating back to that period. The Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, is a prime example of churches of that period and it was built in 1732. The Dorset Steam Fair is held every year in the nearby village of Tarrant Hinton, and it attracts more than a quarter of a million visitors to the area every August. If you plan on going to the fair, make sure you book your travel and accommodation well ahead of time.
