Sea Life Centre, Weymouth
Weymouth Sea Life Centre is located in Lodmoor County Park in Weymouth Dorset. The centre was first opened in 1983 and over the years it has grown considerably to be one of the most varied sea life centres in the south of England. There are many different marine life displays at the centre in various habitats from tropical lagoons to British rock pools. The centre has a small colony of Humboldt penguins and five resident seals. In addition, there is also fantastic underwater observatories where visitors are able to view some wonderful sights such as sharks, sea horses and rays.
The Sea Life Centre is noted for being home to the first, purpose built turtle rescue centre in Britain. The turtle sanctuary has been recently added and can give the care that turtles need when they have been stranded along the coast when they have drifted off course in the Gulf Stream.
The centre is spread over seven acres with some great landscaping. Between the various marine displays there are a number of children’s entertainments including a boat ride, which the centre has named Crocodile Creek. There is a splash lagoon and places to get snacks and drinks. The Weymouth Sea Life Centre is a fantastic family day out.
