Kingston Lacy (NT), Nr Wimborne
You may have heard or even visited the town of Wimborne, in Minster. Dorset has been a holiday favourite for many British families who enjoy the beautiful countryside and the unspoiled coast. If you are staying in or around the Wimborne area then the Kingston Lacy house and formal, late Victorian Gardens are a must see. The garden boasts twenty five different types of ferns with a wonderful display of roses amid lots of shrubbery.
The garden is home to a mix of Egyptian and Italian sculptures amid the flowers and fauna; if you are a keen gardener then you’ll appreciate the sheer beauty of the long established garden, with national collections of anemones. Some of the trees in the garden have been planted by royalty and the gardens also hold a small but beautiful park with lines of solitary trees along its edge. Spring time is a great time to visit the garden with its wonderful collection of spring bulbs and, snowdrops, bluebells and early flowering daffodils. Take a walk in the woodland part of the garden, which is beautiful at almost any time of the year, but at its best in spring and autumn.
The house, which has been the home of the Bankes family for over 300 years, has an exquisite interior and houses a spectacular art collection. Amongst others, the most notable pieces include work by Rubens and Titian. This National trust property is a wonderful day out.
